Supervises: Clinical Supervisors and assigned clinical leadership staff 

Position Summary

The Clinical Services Manager (RN) provides clinical leadership and oversight for assigned specialties and locations within the practice. 

This position leads Clinical Supervisors and works closely with providers, Operations leadership, Quality and Safety, Human Resources, and other departments to ensure safe, consistent, and efficient clinical operations. 

The Clinical Services Manager focuses on clinical leadership, recruitment, staff development, clinical standards, quality, staffing effectiveness, and workflow improvement. Day-to-day management of clinical staff remains the responsibility of the Clinical Supervisor. 

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

• Provide clinical oversight and support for assigned departments and locations. 
• Serve as a resource and escalation point for Clinical Supervisors and department leadership. 
• Promote consistent clinical practices while recognizing appropriate specialty-specific needs. 
• Maintain regular visibility in assigned departments. 
• Identify clinical risks, operational concerns, and opportunities for improvement. 
• Partner with providers and leadership to resolve significant clinical issues. 

Supervisor Development and Accountability

• Lead, coach, and develop Clinical Supervisors. 
• Establish clear expectations and hold supervisors accountable for results. 
• Conduct regular meetings with supervisors to review staffing, performance, workflow, and department concerns. 
• Support supervisors with difficult employee, provider, and clinical issues. 
• Assist with performance management and development of clinical leadership. 
• Build supervisor independence and ensure appropriate issues are resolved at the department level. 

Clinical Standards and Competency

• Develop and maintain consistent clinical policies, procedures, and workflows. 
• Establish competency and training expectations for clinical staff. 
• Ensure clinical staff work within appropriate scope, training, and certification requirements. 
• Standardize clinical practices when doing so improves safety, quality, efficiency, or the patient experience. 
• Support orientation, ongoing education, certification, and professional development of clinical staff. 

Staffing and Clinical Operations

• Review staffing needs across assigned departments based on provider schedules, patient volume, workload, and specialty needs. 
• Monitor vacancies, turnover, overtime, and other staffing trends. 
• Identify opportunities to improve staff utilization and cross-department support. 
• Assist with workforce planning for new providers, services, and practice growth. 
• Support Clinical Supervisors in improving patient flow and clinical workflows. 

Quality and Patient Safety

• Partner with Quality and Safety leadership to address clinical risks and patient safety concerns. 
• Review significant clinical incidents and assist with corrective action and follow-up. 
• Identify trends across departments and implement improvements when needed. 
• Promote compliance with infection prevention, medication safety, clinical policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. 
• Ensure identified clinical concerns are addressed and improvements are sustained. 

EHR and Workflow Improvement

• Represent clinical operations in EHR workflow decisions. 
• Identify opportunities to improve clinical documentation and workflows. 
• Participate in testing and implementation of significant clinical changes. 
• Support Clinical Supervisors with staff education and adoption of approved workflows. 
• Monitor new processes to ensure they are effective and do not create unintended clinical or operational problems. 

Provider and Organizational Partnership

• Maintain effective working relationships with physicians and advanced practice providers. 
• Work collaboratively with Operations leadership to ensure clinical and administrative functions are aligned. 
• Support organization-wide initiatives and changes affecting clinical operations. 
• Communicate expectations and decisions clearly to Clinical Supervisors. 
• Lead assigned clinical improvements. 

Qualifications

• Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license. 
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. 
• Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience. 
• Three or more years of clinical leadership or management experience preferred. 
• Ambulatory or multispecialty physician practice experience strongly preferred. 
• Experience leading supervisors or clinical teams preferred. 
• Current BLS certification. 

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong clinical judgment and leadership skills. 
• Ability to coach and develop supervisors. 
• Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills. 
• Ability to work effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary leadership. 
• Knowledge of ambulatory clinical operations and scope-of-practice requirements. 
• Ability to evaluate staffing, workflow, quality, and performance concerns. 
• Strong organizational and follow-through skills. 
• Ability to lead change across multiple departments. 

Measures of Success

Performance will be measured by: 

• Effectiveness and development of Clinical Supervisors. 
• Clinical staffing stability and appropriate staff utilization. 
• Consistency with established clinical standards. 
• Completion of required training and competencies. 
• Clinical quality and patient safety performance. 
• Timely resolution of significant clinical concerns. 
• Successful implementation of clinical and EHR workflow improvements. 
• Effective collaboration among Clinical Services, Operations, and providers. 
• Reduction in issues requiring unnecessary escalation to senior leadership.
