MRI Technologist

This position operates and prepares specialized equipment to perform magnetic imaging procedures. It requires technical judgment to obtain studies of acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and patient needs. Responsibilities include performing MRI imaging procedures and positioning patients and associated coils to obtain optimum study. The technologist provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged, and any specific instructions the patient may need. All patient safety questionnaires must be reviewed prior to introducing any patients into the MRI scan room. Ensuring that all MRI images are labeled appropriately as specified by department SOP is essential. Images must be evaluated for technical acceptability and transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion. All studies performed must be documented in the Radiology Information System (IDX) promptly. Cleaning the Radiology room and equipment at the start and end of the shift, including the removal of soiled linen, is required. Patient-related documents must be scanned, and necessary supplies and accessories in the radiographic room should be maintained. Accurate tracking of patient information into IDX is essential, along with scheduling exams as required. The technologist should inform the supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions. Assistance to physicians directly and calling for in-patients as required is part of the role. Related clerical duties may be performed in the absence of support personnel. Maintaining safety standards through strict adherence to safety guidelines to prevent the introduction of ferromagnetic materials into the scan room is crucial. The technologist protects self, patients, and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols. Attendance at in-services and professional development meetings as required is expected. Maintaining licensure specific to the job and adherence to public health codes is necessary. Other relevant duties may be assigned as needed.
