About the Position

Job Title: CST/ORT Profession: Surgical Technologist / Operating Room Technician Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:45-17:15 Hours per Shift: 10.5 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Not specified Certifications: BLS, CNOR preferred Must-Have: Teamwork Scrub or circulate procedures Room setup and turnover Obtaining disposables and instrument sets as needed Advanced skills in sterile technique Central line setup Arterial line setup Belmont setup and operation Cell saver setup Description: The unit consists of 2 beds with a 1:1 patient ratio. Staffing includes a board runner, charge nurse, service line coordinators, and ancillary assistance for room turnovers. The unit utilizes equipment such as Belmont, ESU, and positioning equipment. Documentation is performed using Meditech Expanse. Scheduling requirements include RNs working from 7 AM to 4 PM Monday through Thursday and from 7 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday. CSTs are scheduled from 7 AM to 4 PM Monday through Thursday and from 7 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday. There is a floating policy to the main operating rooms. Direct contact with patients requires excellent communication skills, a teamwork approach, and the ability to problem-solve. Qualifications include forward thinking and proactive planning for potential issues. Staff must be adept in scrub or circulate procedures, room setups, and obtaining necessary disposables and instruments. Advanced skills are required for sterile technique, central line setup, arterial line setup, as well as setup and operation of Belmont and cell saver devices. Procedures performed in the unit include open heart procedures, CABG, MVR, TVR, AVR, VATs, and vascular procedures. Dress code consists of scrubs that are provided. Candidates should be informed of any department awards or recognitions, as well as links to videos that feature the department. Additional information may include new equipment or technology and the tenure and experience of staff.
