Unit Coordinator Emergency Department Nights Part Time

Requisition Number: R-22911 Facility: LOC0001 - 55 Fogg Road, 55 Fogg Road Weymouth, MA 02190 Department: SSH Emergency Department HB Status: Part time Budgeted Hours: 24 Shift: Night (United States of America) Schedule: M-F 11PM-7:30AM, E/O Weekend and holiday Compensation Pay Range: $18.58 - $25.01 The Unit Coordinator/Secretary coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, patients, physicians, other hospital departments, and visitors through communication, requisitioning, and management of supplies and equipment. The role also performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. Patient Experience – Demonstrates professional courtesy in all interactions, answers questions or directs to someone who can. Acts as a resource person to nursing staff, other clinicians and support services. Interacts with patient and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity and patience. Technology – Utilizes technological solutions to work processes and practices, and all software applications required by department and unit standards. Uses Lotus Notes to review email, learning management and other resources as applicable. Orders/Admission/Discharges/Transfer of Patients – Scans necessary orders to Pharmacy and alerts nurse to STAT orders, reviews and follows up on all CPOE orders and order entry per SSH policy and procedure. Keeps bed track and PCS systems up to date. Books appointments through central scheduling as indicated. Ensures discharge disposition is entered accurately and in a timely manner. Fax necessary discharge paperwork and medication reconciliation to appropriate provider(s). Unit Workflow – Prints, reviews and inquires about all unit reports as needed; files reports in the patient's chart in appropriate areas; completes accurate daily chart audits; completes a shift-to-shift report (e.g., NPO patients); completes shift rounds ensuring precaution rooms match med track and door tags are correct. Supplies/Services – Orders supplies from Stores/other departments as needed or requested in collaboration with Operations Supervisor; collaborates with Operations Supervisor to maintain/change par levels and to order from outside vendors. Safety/Quality Awareness – Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment; understands individual roles/responsibilities in event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness; ensures unit environment meets regulatory requirements; complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines, universal precautions, proper use of PPE, and hazardous material disposal; maintains awareness of MSDS sheets and access. Professional Development – Functions as a preceptor for new employees; demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs; utilizes critical thinking and problem solving; communicates appropriately and effectively utilizing the chain of command; is accountable for being informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment. Compliance – Works within legal, regulatory and ethical practice standards; safeguards the privacy and security of patient information; reports potential compliance issues; complies with mandatory education requirements of compliance, privacy and security programs. Minimum Education - Preferred: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum Work Experience - Preferred: Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Computer Skills - Preferred: Basic computer knowledge.
