Responsibilities Provide a visual security presence Conduct hourly rounds to ensure that visitors have a safe and pleasant experience When staffing the security office, the Security Officer shall monitor alarm systems, sign in and out keys and audiovisual equipment to authorized personnel, admit staff and visitors to the building, check in and sign out deliveries, and answer the security office telephone Control crowds as required Secure the site’s entrances at the end of operating hours Maintain a shift log Other duties as may be assigned Required Qualifications and Experience Be a minimum of 18 years of age High School diploma or equivalent Must be authorized to work in the United States Negative result on a pre-employment drug screen li> Current Security Guard License required 8 hour and 16 hour security certificate required Must be able to deal with standard and crisis situations effectively Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language both in verbal and writing Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times while providing superior customer service Must be able to work a flexible schedule, follow detailed procedures, and have good customer service skills Must have the ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality Must be able to pass a basic literacy and math test Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation Preferred Qualifications and Experience Fire guard license (3 or 4) highly preferred. CPR certification highly preferred. Experience in the security field helpful, but not required. Physical Requirements Must be able to stand and remain upright for up to 8 hours in various weather conditions including but not limited to humidity, direct sun, rain, snow and wind. Must be able to move about on foot for up to 8 hours in various weather conditions including but not limited to humidity, direct sun, rain, snow and wind. Must be able to remain in a seated position for up to 8 hours. Must be able to tolerate exposure to changing environmental conditions, as activities occur indoors and outdoors. Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs. Must be able to operate company equipment such as radio, computer/keyboard, stanchions, tape/rope. General Procedures Read and become familiar with all post orders and the policy and procedure manuals. Constantly meet the appearance standards and be in complete uniform as prescribed. Check the log book at your post for pertinent information. Work over or work an extra shift on occasion if it becomes necessary. Operate on the “need to know basis” with site employees. Any questions should be directed to the site supervisor. Refrain from listening to or passing on rumors or gossip. If you do overhear matters that need to be addressed, bring it to the attention of the site supervisor. Always go to the site supervisor with a problem, complaint, question or suggestion. The client should never be bothered with these issues. Always follow the chain of command within HSI. The client is not part of the chain of command. Always be courteous and respectful in dealing with fellow officers as well as site employees and visitors. Expectations The security officer is usually the first representative of the company to greet visitors. The officer’s appearance must be neat, and the officer’s conduct should be pleasant, courteous and businesslike. To command respect and attention, the officer must be impartial, must not engage in casual conversation, jokes, horseplay and must adhere strictly to Heightened Security’s rules, procedures and policies. In order to preserve peace, good order, and to protect the lives, property and interests of the client’s location, the officer must watch for fire hazards, unsafe conditions and evidence of intrusion or foul play. Any situation that is undesirable to the client or HSI should be reported promptly to the site supervisor. The security officer does not have the arrest power of a law enforcement officer. The security supervisor should call the police department if an outsider threatens the property. Security officers should never become involved in verbal arguments or abuse. Nor should he/she ever attempt to physically prevent a person from attempting to damage property. All security officers will also… Protect all company and client property. Remain alert; listen, observe, detect and report all suspicious / unusual and criminal activity to a supervisor. Know the locations of fire alarm boxes, shut off valves, telephones, and fire extinguishers. Make no statements to the press or bystanders even in the event of an emergency. Divulging of information is strictly prohibited. Employees must not disclose any confidential information, purposely or accidentally (through casual conversation), to any unauthorized person inside or outside of the company, this includes but is not limited to publishing such information via the internet and/or social media accounts. Make sure no company or client property or products are removed from the premises without proper authority. Not leave your post until properly relieved. It is important to understand that there cannot be any open posts at anytime. If you are scheduled to work a double shift or told to work past your end time by the supervisor due to staff shortage, you must comply with your commitment to work the double shift or comply with the supervisor’s directions to stay on duty. If for any reason you cannot stay, you must report this to the supervisor who will make the determination as to whether or not you could or should leave. The supervisor must be given time to assess the situation. Do not allow anyone access onto client property without proper identification. Use telephones for company business only. Follow safe practices at all times: watch for slippery conditions / use flashlights in dark areas / use handrails when going up or down stairways / be especially careful at night. Do not allow firearms on company or client property. Keep familiar with all post orders, updated procedures and memos. Report any and all incidents. Sign out / in keys only to authorized persons. Security officers will not use profanity or abusive language while on duty and/or wearing a Heightened Security uniform. Security officers will comply with all orders and directions issued by the supervisor. Officers will not accept gifts or gratuities from anyone, for any reason. Security officers are prohibited from bringing the following items to their posts: television sets / newspapers / magazines / books / I-pods / coffee making devices.
