Electronics Technician I

The Electronics Technician I builds and wires electrical control panels, junction boxes, and subassemblies according to customer specifications in a manufacturing environment. This role requires strong blueprint and schematic reading skills, hands-on electrical and mechanical assembly experience, and the ability to work safely and efficiently with hand and power tools on either 1st or 2nd shift.
Responsibilities
- Wire and build electrical control panels, junction boxes, and subassemblies in accordance with customer requirements and engineering documentation.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, and bills of material to perform accurate assembly and wiring.
- Measure, drill, and tap holes in sheet metal and enclosures to mount control units and to provide openings for components, wiring, or instruments.
- Perform complete point-to-point wiring and install a wide variety of electronic and electrical components, including PLCs, relays, lights, switches, and related devices.
- Use a variety of small hand tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, tape measures, and Allen wrenches to assemble and wire control panels.
- Perform mechanical installation and electrical wiring for control panels, desks, and related assemblies.
- Carry out operations such as deburring, grinding, sawing, drilling, and tapping as needed to prepare and finish components.
- Operate hand pallet jacks to move materials and finished products safely within the plant.
- Install finished assemblies or subassemblies into cases, cabinets, or enclosures, ensuring proper fit, function, and quality.
- Inspect assemblies and wiring for accuracy, workmanship, and adherence to schematics and electrical diagrams.
- Utilize and update documentation as required to support engineering changes and continuous improvement activities.
- Work efficiently on an assembly line or in a production environment, meeting quality and productivity expectations.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with lockout/tagout and other safety certifications as required.
- Collaborate with team members and support a positive, productive work environment while also being able to work independently.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to work overtime as needed to meet production schedules and customer demands.
- At least 2 years of experience in control panel building, including wiring, reading schematics, and working with electrical diagrams.
- Proficiency in reading and working from blueprints, schematics, ladder logic schematics, and electrical diagrams.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical installation and electrical wiring for control panels and related equipment.
- Strong understanding of electrical currents and basic electrical principles.
- Experience wiring harnesses and components, including working with various wire gauges, types, and sizes.
- Ability to use and operate a wide range of hand tools, including wire strippers, crimpers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, tape measures, and Allen wrenches.
- Experience using hand tools to drill, tap, and assemble electrical panels, including drilling and tapping sheet metal.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience with mechanical and electrical assembly in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and write in English to understand work instructions, documentation, and safety requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time while performing assembly tasks.
- Reliable transportation to maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Willingness and availability to work overtime when required to support production demands.
- Experience with control panel building on an assembly line or in a high-volume production environment.
- Familiarity with PLC components and control panel layouts.
- Experience with inspection of electrical and electronic assemblies for quality and compliance.
- Comfort using both hand and power tools for drilling, tapping, cutting, deburring, and assembly.
- Ability to operate basic material handling equipment such as hand pallet jacks.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in wiring and assembly work.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality work.
- Basic understanding of safety practices in a manufacturing environment, including lockout/tagout and equipment-specific safety procedures.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain certifications as necessary based on function, such as lockout/tagout and fork truck certification.

Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing environment with normal industrial working conditions. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and products up to 30 pounds, regular use of hand and power tools, and long periods of standing while performing assembly and wiring tasks. You will work on either 1st shift (approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) or 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday), with overtime as needed. Machinery operation requires the consistent use of safety equipment, including eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, and hard hats as required. Safety shoes are always required throughout the manufacturing plant, and additional personal protective equipment may be required for drilling, tapping, deburring, cutting, testing, lifting, and moving materials. Loose-fitting clothing and jewelry are not permitted to ensure safety around machinery. Certifications such as lockout/tagout and fork truck certification may be required based on job duties.
