POSITION OVERVIEW

• Job Title: Construction Assistant
• Reports To: Project Manager
• Status: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
• Growth & Feedback: 90-day initial review followed by annual performance evaluations

ROLE MISSION


In this role, you will act as a vital link between our Construction Manager, Supervisors, and site teams to ensure operations run smoothly. Your primary focus will be optimizing material supply lines, maintaining highly organized work site environments, and leading volunteer teams to successfully execute community builds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination

• Procure and transport approved construction materials and tools from local vendors to active jobsites.
• Coordinate the collection and inventory of donated materials and building items.
• Anticipate site needs to ensure field crews always have the proper tools and supplies ready for use.

Site Operations & Safety

• Maintain organization and safety standards across the construction area and material storage zones.
• Interpret blueprint layouts and structural construction plans to assist with daily project tasks.

Leadership & Community Engagement

• Supervise, mentor, and guide diverse groups of volunteers on-site, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
• Serve as an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity, communicating professionally with city officials, municipal representatives, and contractors.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements (Must-Haves)

• Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Mobility: Valid New Jersey Driver's License, a clean driving record, and current automotive liability insurance.
• Equipment: Access to a reliable, work-appropriate vehicle suitable for hauling or moving materials.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with a natural ability to connect with diverse groups.
• Tech Literacy: Comfortable using foundational digital tools, including Microsoft Word, email, and web browsers.

Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Haves)

• Trade Knowledge: General familiarity with construction methods, hand/power tools, and job site safety.
• Plan Reading: Ability to read, interpret, and work off of standard construction blueprints.
• Mission Alignment: A shared passion for the values and community-building mission of Habitat for Humanity.

Compensation Range: $18.50 - $25.00 per hour depending on experience.
