Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic, itinerant contract role for the upcoming school year. Partner with educators and service providers across multiple sites in the New Orleans area, ensuring visually impaired students receive the resources and instruction they need to reach their full potential. This position offers the opportunity to apply your expertise and advocacy skills at the elementary and secondary levels from August through May, with a standard 35-hour workweek.

Key Responsibilities:

• Travel daily to assigned schools to serve a varied caseload
• Provide direct instructional services to visually impaired students
• Facilitate communication and training for staff to support students’ needs
• Prepare and adapt textbooks and learning materials in accessible formats
• Ensure the successful integration of assistive technologies and teach their use
• Maintain ongoing collaboration with classroom teachers and the Department of Education
• Deliver Braille instruction and, when possible, orientation and mobility guidance
• Maintain comprehensive records and fulfill district and departmental duties as needed

Ideal Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and visually impaired teacher certification (required)
• Current Louisiana DOE teaching certification
• At least 3 years' experience in education, with strong performance in demanding roles
• Demonstrated ability to inspire and effectively communicate with colleagues and students
• Proficiency in assistive technology for visual impairment and delivering Braille instruction
• Solution-focused, resilient, and detail-oriented approach
• Flexibility and independence to manage a mobile, school-based workload
• Ability to clear required background checks and drug screenings
