Host Position

The host will greet and seat guests as they enter the Fontana Restaurant. A host is also responsible for selling and booking large party reservations for all Biltmore restaurant outlets. This position requires consistent adherence to policies and procedures of the department as outlined in the Biltmore Standard Operating Procedures (BSOP'S).

Responsibilities include maintaining complete knowledge of and compliance with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards, maintaining knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment, greeting guests, anticipating guests' needs, maintaining positive guest relations, resolving guest complaints, monitoring cleanliness, sanitation and organization of the restaurant, maintaining knowledge of daily house count, VIPs in-house, arrivals/departures, scheduled group activities and locations within resort, all resort facilities and services, hours of operation of each outlet, answering department telephone, organizing the host stand for service, making sure the Armoire is always clean and organized, maintaining all menus clean and displayed at host station, ensuring all tables are properly set, cleaning chair cushions, helping servers with drink orders, monitoring all guest activity in assigned work area, utilizing first aid when situations demand, completing closing duties and paperwork, cleaning designated equipment and sections, restocking items for next shift, securing storage areas, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements include none required for education, minimum one year restaurant experience preferred, skills required to speak, read, write and understand the English language, compute accurate mathematical calculations, provide legible communication and directions, perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy, prioritize and organize, think clearly, remain calm and resolve problems using good judgment, follow directions thoroughly, understand guest's service needs, work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team, work with minimal supervision, maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent resort data, use a computer keyboard and possess basic typing skills, possess moderate to advanced computer skills, work in a dynamic and constantly changing environment and adept to multitasking.

Physical demands include moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds, standing, sitting, or walking for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift, reaching overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping, using, carrying, and operating all necessary office equipment using finger dexterity, communicating with employees, managers, subordinates and guests through verbal communication, hearing ability, and visual acuity, visually looking at a computer for extended periods of time, adapting to moderate temperatures in the hotel as thermostat is controlled by hotel environmental systems.
