Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Duties

Performs specialized and technically demanding tests that require concentrated and considerable time and experience.

Implements new solutions to methodologies problems, analyzes test systems, and devises plan to achieve objectives after literature reviews, and contacts with colleagues in other hospitals.

Records results through a variety of data entry modes into laboratory information systems, and retrieves information from electronic databases upon physician requests.

Troubleshoots instruments, test methods, and processes correcting and recording the problem and instructs other laboratory scientists and technicians on new methods, instrumentation, and complex specialized tests.

Instructs and trains technical personnel and laboratory students in the theory, principles and practices of medical technology.

Presents lectures, in-service training, on-going competency training, and PQS (personnel qualification standards) training for new staff.

Recognizes and identifies departures from expected results, including shifts, tends, bias, and systemic versus random errors and formulates sound corrective action and proactive initiative to resolve problems.
