Special Education Teacher - Lakewood, Ohio

Job Description

Make an impact in the lives of young learners by supporting students with significant cognitive disabilities in a dedicated special education setting. This contract opportunity serves two moderate/severe classrooms, one focusing on students in grades K-3 and the other in grades 3-5. You’ll help shape individual educational journeys and foster an inclusive, encouraging environment for children who need tailored support.

Ideal Qualifications & Experience:

Special Education Teacher certification or licensure (state credentials required)
Experience working with students with significant cognitive disabilities
Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for moderate to severe special needs
Strong collaboration skills with paraprofessionals, related services staff, and families
Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Familiarity with behavioral and communication supports

Key Responsibilities:

Lead instruction and classroom management in designated K-3 and 3-5 self-contained special education classrooms
Create, adapt, and deliver lessons using multisensory and differentiated methods
Implement IEP goals, collect data, and monitor student progress
Collaborate with support staff and other educators to develop and maintain individualized learning plans
Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies for support
Maintain accurate records and comply with all educational and legal requirements
