Medical Assistant

JOB OBJECTIVE: The Medical Assistant (MA) will provide a variety of duties under the supervision of the Wellness Center Medical Providers, with primary emphasis on rooming patients and preparing them for their visit.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Rooming patients, including preparing exam rooms and escorting patients, to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the clinic day.

2. Collecting and recording vital signs (blood pressure, weight, temperature, pulse, and other biometrics as needed).

3. Performing medication reconciliation at each visit.

4. Verifying and updating patient allergy information.

5. Verifying patient insurance and eligibility information.

6. Verifying patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit.

7. Assisting with other tasks as needed, including ear irrigation/flushing, venipuncture/blood draws, wart cryotherapy (freezing), and other minor in-office procedures as directed by providers.

8. Administering vaccinations per protocol or order.

9. Providing back-up/coverage for other clinic tasks as needed.

10. Assisting with scheduling appointments.

11. Supporting the PT practice as needed, including assistance with scheduling visits and supply inventory.

12. Ensuring any pre-visit paperwork is complete or necessary records are collected.


13. Securing patient information and maintaining patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential.

14. Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.

15. Assisting in maintaining proper inventory stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.

16. Keeping equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.

17. Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.

18. Serving and protecting the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures and to federal, state, and local requirements.

19. Enhancing the practice's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

20. Performing various clerical and administrative duties.

21. Performing other duties as directed by the Wellness Center Medical Director.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant Program.

2. Associate degree preferred.

3. Compliance with continuing education requirements.

4. Hard-working patient advocate.

5. Ability to work independently.

6. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

7. Obvious sense of professionalism with ability to inspire confidence and become a trusted resource for our employees.

8. HIPAA compliance.

9. Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting.

2. Previous Phlebotomy experience.

3. Training in Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs. as needed.

2. Ability to use a computer.

3. Ability to move between buildings.
