2026-11 Interim Director, Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History (2026-2027) Appointment Type : Full or Part Time, Fixed Term Contract (September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027), Onsite Compensation : Starting salary of $150,000 per year (annualized based on full‑time hours), for the successful candidate. Role Status : This position is open due to an existing role becoming vacant. Reports to : Dean of Arts Trinity College is a vibrant and diverse academic community with a rich history and an excellent local and international reputation. Since its founding in 1851, the College has valued and fostered a high level of academic achievement with some 2,400 currently registered students, 450 of whom live at the College. The Trinity College campus comprises spectacular historic buildings. The College is the smallest college on the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto, located in the central Toronto downtown core, steps from the Bloor‑St. George subway station and Queen’s Park. Position Summary The Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History invites applications for the position of Interim Director. Based at Trinity College in the University of Toronto, the Centre brings together academics and practitioners to promote a deeper understanding of contemporary international history with a particular focus on Canada’s role. The Centre’s activities include undergraduate and graduate teaching, the organization and sponsorship of conferences and public lectures by scholars and policymakers, and publications reflecting original research. The Centre works in close collaboration with the International Relations program based at Trinity College, the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, and the departments of History, Political Science and Economics at the University of Toronto. We also promote international history through partnerships with other institutions and organizations in Canada and abroad. The Interim Director will be entrusted with the overall direction of the Centre, reporting directly to the Dean of Arts of Trinity College under the general guidance of the Graham Centre Advisory Board. This is a full‑time position, though we are also open to considering a part‑time appointment. The position will begin on September 1, 2026 and finish on June 30, 2027, coinciding with the search for a new Director of the Centre whose position is anticipated to begin July 1 2027. The Interim Director will remain in residence for the duration of the appointment. Key Responsibilities Oversight and planning of the Centre’s activities and programming, including conferences, panels, lectures, and other public events, as well as publications resulting from these. Coordination of visioning and strategic planning for the Centre by engaging stakeholders and partners in the university and wider community. Co‑management with the Canadian International Council (CIC) of the academic journal, International Journal, including oversight of its editorial board, communication with its publisher and decisions regarding its operation. Development of funding opportunities in collaboration with the College’s Office of Development & Alumni Affairs through networking and application for research grants and other potential sources. Direction of the Centre’s selection process for the appointment of Senior and Junior Fellows, engaging them to build up a community of scholars associated with the Centre. Regular reporting on the Centre’s activities to the Dean of Arts, donors and other stakeholders through a semi‑annual newsletter and annual report. Management of the Centre’s student interns. Instruction of a third‑year course or fourth‑year seminar in the International Relations program based at Trinity College. Educational and Experience Requirements PhD (or equivalent professional experience) in International Relations, Global Affairs, History, Politics or related field. Candidates without a PhD must have demonstrated an accomplished career in global affairs in the governmental or non‑governmental sector. Demonstrated publication record in contemporary international relations history or current global affairs, preferably with a focus on Canada’s role. Significant administrative experience in an academic, governmental or non‑governmental organization. Superior interpersonal skills, ability to work in a diverse, academic setting with a wide variety of stakeholders from across the university and wider community. Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
