Job SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Real Estate Development Accountant to manage financial operations across real estate development and construction projects throughout their full lifecycle. This role is responsible for project accounting, construction draws, cost tracking, budgeting, and financial reporting, while also supporting audits, tax preparation, and lender/investor compliance.The ideal candidate has strong experience in construction and development accounting, including job costing, capitalized costs, draw processes, and multi-entity structures.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Accounting & Cost ManagementTrack and monitor project costs across multiple developments and phasesEnsure accurate cost allocation and capitalization in compliance with accounting standardsAnalyze actual costs versus budgets and forecasts; identify variances and recommend solutionsMaintain detailed job cost reports and project-level financialsPartner with project managers to ensure accurate financial trackingDraw Management & Construction FinancingPrepare, submit, and track construction draws and payment applicationsPrepare settlement statements for financing closingsRecord lender draws, capital contributions, and distributionsReconcile draws to budgets, contracts, and loan agreementsEnsure compliance with lender requirements and deadlinesCoordinate with lenders, contractors, and internal stakeholdersBudgeting & ForecastingAssist in developing project budgets and financial forecastsUpdate projections based on project progress and change ordersProvide financial insights to project teamsPrepare and maintain project cash flow forecastsGeneral Ledger & Financial ReportingMaintain general ledger accounts across multiple entities (LLCs, partnerships)Perform monthly bank reconciliations and account analysesPrepare journal entries and monthly financial reporting packagesAssist in quarterly and annual financial statement preparationEnsure proper classification of expenses and capitalized costsAudit, Tax & Compliance SupportPrepare audit workpapers and support tax return preparationAssist with cost certifications for contractors and ownersMaintain documentation for financing, contracts, and approvalsEnsure compliance with internal controls and partnership agreementsSystems & Process SupportMaintain accurate data in accounting and project management systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Smartsheet)Utilize advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, modeling, etc.)Support process improvements and financial reporting enhancementsMaintain organization across multiple development entitiesCollaborate with development, construction, and leadership teamsSupport reporting, documentation, and special projects as neededQualificationsEducationBachelor 's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)Experience3–7+ years of accounting experienceExperience in real estate development or construction accounting strongly preferredProven experience with project-based accounting and job costing required.Technical SkillsStrong knowledge of construction/development accounting principlesProficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting softwareAdvanced Microsoft Excel skillsExperience with Smartsheet, SharePoint, and other business tools a plusCore CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and accuracyExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlinesStrong organizational and documentation skillsEffective communication with cross-functional teamsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentWhy Join Us?Opportunity to work on impactful real estate development projectsCompetitive compensation and benefitsGrowth and professional development opportunities
