The Maintenance Lead is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electrical production equipment while providing day-to-day leadership and support to the maintenance team. This role serves as a key resource for maintenance personnel, production teams, and other departments to ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maintain a safe, productive work environment. The Maintenance Lead may also assume supervisory responsibilities during the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor or during off-shift operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily guidance, direction, and support to maintenance team members to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.

• Coordinate maintenance work activities and prioritize repair requests based on production needs and equipment criticality.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related issues during assigned shifts.

• Communicate equipment concerns, operational issues, and maintenance status updates to management and maintenance staff.

• Act as a liaison between Maintenance, Production, Shipping, and other departments to support smooth operations and resolve issues quickly.

• Report shift activities, equipment issues, and key updates to the Maintenance Supervisor.

• Step into a supervisory role when needed, including during off-shift operations or in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor.

• Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical production equipment.

• Assist in diagnosing equipment failures and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

• Support preventive maintenance programs and planned maintenance schedules to improve equipment reliability.

• Help ensure production equipment operates efficiently to meet manufacturing goals and minimize downtime.

• Provide technical support, mentorship, and guidance to maintenance technicians on mechanical and electrical issues.

• Assist in identifying and sourcing replacement parts, tools, and maintenance supplies required for repairs and projects.

• Coordinate with purchasing personnel to order required materials in a timely manner.

• Support the management and organization of spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are available when needed.

• Work proactively to minimize production downtime through planning, scheduling, and preparation of maintenance activities.

• Promote and enforce safe work practices and adherence to company safety policies and procedures.

• Ensure employees follow proper machine operation and forklift procedures to reduce risk of injury or equipment damage.

• Assist in conducting routine safety meetings and reinforcing safety expectations with the maintenance team.

• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with company standards.

• Support quality standards by ensuring maintenance work is completed accurately, documented properly, and performed to a high standard.

• Use basic computer systems for work order management, inventory data entry, email communication, and maintenance tracking.

• Collaborate with production and other departments to support continuous improvement in equipment performance, safety, and reliability.

Essential Skills

• Minimum EM2 level leadership experience, with EM3-level experience preferred.

• Minimum 3–5 years of maintenance experience, including at least one year of leadership experience as a team lead or in another leadership role with at least one direct report.

• Demonstrated ability to self-manage while managing others with limited oversight during assigned shifts.

• Strong electrical knowledge and troubleshooting ability with 110, 240, and 480 volt systems, supported by a combination of certifications and hands-on experience.

• Proven mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience working on industrial machinery.

• Experience working with equipment and manufacturing processes in an industrial or plant environment.

• Ability to coordinate personnel and resources to meet production and maintenance objectives.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially in time-sensitive situations.

• Ability to read, understand, and apply technical information such as manuals, schematics, and diagrams.

• Basic computer skills, including work order management, inventory data entry, email communication, and use of maintenance tracking systems.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with maintenance staff, production teams, and other departments.

• Hands-on experience as a maintenance technician with mechanical troubleshooting and repair responsibilities.

• Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

• Experience in electrical troubleshooting in a production or industrial setting.

• Demonstrated ability to promote and follow safe work practices in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• EM3-level leadership experience is preferred.

• PLC experience is desired and considered a strong asset.

• Basic welding and fabrication skills are preferred.

• Previous leadership, lead technician, or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

• Experience supporting preventive maintenance programs is beneficial.

• Familiarity with inventory management and parts procurement processes is an advantage.

• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.

• Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance technicians.

• Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with varying priorities.

• Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift schedules, including occasional additional hours as needed.

Work Environment

This position supports a manufacturing plant environment with modern machinery that occasionally experiences breakdowns, creating strong demand for skilled maintenance support. The facility operates multiple shifts, including a 3rd shift from Sunday to Thursday, typically 10:45 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with Sunday start times around 9:00–9:30 p.m. to support plant start-up, and total weekly hours often ranging from 45 to 50, with occasional mandatory or optional Friday work when production is behind. A 2nd shift operates Monday through Friday from approximately 2:45 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with some additional hours as needed. The work environment varies by season and area of the plant: it can be hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and generally dirty throughout the year, particularly in the section where rubber tires are ground and broken down into fine raw material. The final product area, where products are molded and prepared for shipment, is somewhat cleaner. The plant employs approximately 125 people, fostering a busy and collaborative production setting. Machinery is up to date but requires ongoing maintenance to ensure reliability and uptime. The organization continuously reviews and improves safety protocols and procedures to provide a safe working environment. The dress code for maintenance personnel includes long pants, a plain shirt, a work jacket for winter conditions, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and ear protection to ensure safety and compliance with plant standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of YORK, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $91520.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
