CSI Assistant (Student) (FWS)

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is hiring undergraduate Student Assistants to support student engagement, campus programs, and daily office operations. Essential Functions Provide friendly, professional assistance to students, staff, and campus partners. Answer phones and respond to inquiries by email, sharing accurate information about CSI programs and resources. Assist with purchase requests, mail processing, and managing two department email accounts. Support office projects involving email correspondence, information collection, and distribution. Help students navigate Engage, American University’s platform for student organizations and involvement opportunities. Position Type / Expected Hours Part‑time, 10 hours per week. Salary Range: $18.40 per hour. Required Education and Experience Open to undergraduate students enrolled in an American University degree program for the current/upcoming academic year. Federal Work‑Study–eligible students are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be organized, dependable, self‑motivated, friendly, professional with strong communication skills, able to manage multiple tasks in a busy office setting, proactive, and willing to take initiative. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook (or eager to learn). Additional Eligibility Qualifications Professional communication skills (in‑person, phone, and email). Customer service and problem‑solving experience. Time management and multitasking in a busy office environment. Administrative and organizational skills applicable to many careers. Experience supporting student organizations and campus programs. Proficiency with office technology and platforms, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Engage. Teamwork, initiative, and professionalism in a higher‑education workplace. About the Work Environment The Center for Student Involvement is the hub of student life at American University. CSI supports Student Government, student clubs and organizations, student media, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and the Graduate Leadership Council.
