Associate Research Scientist (Part-Time)

The Associate Research Scientist will support a study focused on early childhood educator-child interactions, commonly referred to as the Small Moments Study. This project examines how everyday moments of connection between early childhood educators and young children support relational quality, educator wellbeing, and classroom climate. The study involves survey data collection and qualitative interviews with early childhood educators and is led by Drs. Erin O'Connor and Robin Neuhaus. This position is part-time, paid hourly, and may be conducted fully remote depending on project needs. The Associate Research Scientist will play a key role in supporting data collection, qualitative and quantitative data preparation, and early stages of analysis, as well as contributing to dissemination materials. The role requires prior training in education or social science research methods and the ability to work independently while coordinating closely with project leadership. The position is expected to begin August 2026 and will run for 4 months through November 2026. The Associate Research Scientist will work approximately 4 hours/week over the 4 month period (72 hours total). Position Responsibilties: Assist with manuscript drafting, qualitative coding, memo-writing, and synthesis of focus group data Assist with the preparation of dissemination products such as reports, briefs, or presentations Participate in regular project meetings to provide strategic input Per NYC's Pay Transparency Act, this position has an hourly rate of $31/hour. Graduate degree in education, psychology, sociology, public policy, or a related field Prior coursework or training in education or social science research methods Experience with survey research and/or qualitative data collection preferred Familiarity with qualitative analysis techniques (e.g., coding, memoing) preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently Experience with spreadsheets and basic data management required; experience with qualitative software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose) is a plus To apply, please submit a cover letter and CV or resume via Interfolio.
