About the Role

The Company is seeking an Assistant General Counsel with a focus on shipping and logistics to join their dynamic global organization. The successful candidate will provide practical, business-oriented legal counsel to the company's shipping and logistics division, with a primary emphasis on the legal aspects of logistics, freight, and supply chain operations. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to, commercial and service contract drafting and negotiation, regulatory and trade compliance, and managing legal matters related to the division's operations in the Caribbean and Central America. The Assistant General Counsel will be a trusted advisor to senior leaders, enabling sound business decisions, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, an active license to practice law, and at least 7 years of progressive legal experience, with a strong background in logistics, transportation, and supply chain matters. Direct legal experience in an ocean carrier, transportation, freight forwarding, 3PL, or a comparable environment is essential. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of commercial and service contract law, cargo claims, and transportation and trade regulatory compliance, including experience with FMC/Shipping Act, customs, and sanctions. Strategic legal judgment, business acumen, and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business guidance are also key qualifications for this role.
