Patient Financial Services, Cashier

Position Description Under the direction of the Patient Financial Services Cashier Team Lead and/or the Patient Financial Services (PFS) Assistant Director, the PFS Cashier is responsible for the daily preparation, posting, and balancing of payments, adjustments and denials from healthcare third‑party insurance payers and patients to patient claims. The core responsibilities of a Cashier are to accurately and efficiently enter remittance information provided from the insurance carriers and patients, while ensuring the integrity of financial transactions within the patient accounting system. This role plays a critical part in supporting the organization’s revenue cycle by ensuring timely cash application, maintaining accuracy, and assisting in the reduction of unapplied cash and payment discrepancies. Required Qualifications A minimum of a High School diploma or GED. A minimum of 3 years’ prior healthcare billing experience and knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of Word and Excel applications. Must be able to adapt to system changes, manage heavy call volume, and be a self‑starter, organized, and detail oriented. Preferred Qualifications College degree and/or certifications in billing and coding preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish speaking is a plus. Physical Demands Lift stored document boxes up to 10 lbs. Travel As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. Anticipated Pay Range The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
