The clinic focuses on classical hematology, dealing with bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell disease, and deep vein thromboses. Nurses will not be working with malignant hematology or oncology patients. Candidates must bring their own stethoscopes. Phlebotomy skills are required. Responsibilities include nursing patients in the clinic room and performing phlebotomy. Central line care and assistance with bone marrow biopsies are also essential duties. The position involves vaccinations, EKGs, phone triage, and facilitating patient scheduling for infusions. Patient education and case management are important aspects of this role. Average daily census in the clinic is around 70 patients. There is no call or weekend requirement for this position. The staff will work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, excluding holidays. Chemotherapy and infusions are not administered in this clinic setting. Preferred qualifications include oncology clinic experience and certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN. Staff members will be involved in special procedures like bone marrow biopsies, manual differentials, patient assessment, and triage. Equipment required includes a stethoscope, which nurses must provide themselves. The patient demographic includes adults with benign hematology conditions only. Candidates must be willing to float within or near the facility as needed.
