Grant Manager

Position Summary:The Grant Manager conducts research on potential funding sources and grant opportunities for the maintenance or expansion of tribal programs and services. Coordinates planning, organization, preparation, and administration of various grants; monitors grants to ensure compliance with grant requirements and established laws and regulations.Essential FunctionsResearch potential sources of funding, including government agencies, private foundations, and corporations.Develop proposals that are compelling, well-researched, and tailored to the requirements of each funding source.Collect data, statistics, and other relevant information to support the proposal.Thoroughly review proposals for accuracy, clarity, and completeness, and make revisions as necessary.Ensure that all proposals are submitted on time and in compliance with applicable federal, state, tribal, and other funding agency guidelines.Maintain accurate records of all proposals submitted, including the status of each application and any feedback received from funders.Establish and maintain relationships with funders, including attending meetings and events, and following up on proposals.Stay informed of funding trends and changes in the grant-making landscape, as well as the priorities and goals of the organization.Monitors and coordinates the administration of post-award grants to ensure budget and administrative policies adhere to funding requirements.Provides technical assistance and guidance to the staff in the planning and preparation, of policies, regulations, and procedures on grant proposals including contract/procurement requirements, funding/budgeting proposals, invoice payment, and reimbursement requests; assists in the interpretation of funding agency regulations and requirements.Work closely with Tribal Leadership, branch directors, department directors, and the Department of Finance to ensure compliance with reporting requirements, and reimbursement/payment submissions.Coordinate and oversee any meetings, interviews, site visits, travel, or training in accordance with specific grant requirements.Provide reports and updates to Tribal Leadership on the status of current grants and opportunities for future funding.Work closely with staff members, including department directors and finance staff, to ensure that proposals are aligned with the organization's overall strategy and goals.Performs other duties as assigned.Provide grant writing assistance.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilityKnowledge of the grant application process and effective grantsmanship techniques.Knowledge of and familiarity with a wide range of grants and funding sources (i.e., public, private, and categorical).Knowledge of grant editing rules and guidelines.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Excellent computer and organizational skills.Ability to interpret grant instructions for accurate completion and to take initiative and utilize innovative techniques and ingenuity in preparing grant applications.Ability to exercise discretion and judgment regarding complex and sensitive issues and information.Ability to foster a cooperative work environment with a wide range of individuals.Ability to resolve conflict in a constructive manner.Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, work under pressure to meet deadlines, and be flexible to meet quickly changing demands and needs.Ability to make presentations for small and large groups.Ability to critique proposals.Ability to receive direction and critique in a constructive manner.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials, and Members.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position.Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Planning, Public Administration, or related field (preferred);Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in grant writing, managing grants, contracts and/or grant administration;Or any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position.Knowledge of policies and procedures for commonly used grant funding sources in Indian Country (e.g., Department of the Interior, Department of Justice, National Congress of American Indians, etc.) (preferred);Must possess a current California Driver’s License, and safe driving record and be insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy;Must pass background security check prior to employment;Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug test as requested over the course of employment; andMust be able to work evening hours and weekends on occasion.Hiring Preference Policy:Among qualified applicants, preference is given to Wilton Rancheria Tribal Members, then to spouses of Wilton Rancheria Tribal Members, and to other Native Americans.
