As your responsibilities expand, you take on broader account ownership, balancing project leadership with growing involvement in client strategy and solution development.Success in this role comes from a growth mindset, strong communication skills, advanced critical thinking, and the ability to navigate new challenges with confidence.About the RoleWe’re seeking an experienced Public Sector Finance and Compliance Manager to lead high-impact accounting advisory and internal audit engagements. You’ll manage engagements from planning through delivery, lead and develop teams, and advise clients on technical accounting matters, strengthening internal controls, managing risk, and navigating evolving financial and regulatory requirements.This is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise with leadership and client advisory skills while helping public sector organizations improve how they operate and serve their stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop engagement plans and workpaper templates for client projectsExecute engagement work plans and ensure timely delivery of high-quality resultsProactively mentor and develop staff to support efficient project deliverySet performance expectations for team members and provide constructive feedback regularlyTroubleshoot potential engagement issues (e.g., obtain additional documentation or clarification to support findings)Draft recommendations for a variety of engagements (e.g., audit findings, business process improvements, corrective action plans, value-add opportunities)Support development of client deliverables and presentationsContribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client relationship supportBasic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.Relevant experience in public sector external financial statement audit, single audit, or accounting advisory services including experience leading engagements and teams.Experience working with public sector, governmental, higher education, or other regulated organizations.Strong knowledge of applicable standards and frameworks, including GAAP, GASB, Yellow Book, and/or Uniform Guidance.Experience managing engagement scope, budgets, resources, timelines, testing, and deliverables.Strong client relationships, communication, project management, and team leadership skills.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.Preferred SkillsExperience leading complex public sector financial statement audit, single audit, or accounting advisory engagements.Strong understanding of governmental accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, federal grant compliance, and regulatory requirements.Ability to translate complex audit and compliance findings into practical, actionable recommendations for clients.Experience coaching and developing team members while managing multiple engagements or workstreams.Advanced Excel and data analytics skills, with an interest in leveraging AI and emerging technologies to improve audit quality, insights, and efficiency.Familiarity with engagement and resource management platforms such as Workday, Retain, or similar tools.Strong executive presence and ability to build trusted relationships with client leadership.We expect the candidate to uphold Crowe’s values of Care, Trust, Courage, and Stewardship. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
