Senior Software Development Engineer - InsurTech

Overview As part of Expedia Group’s InsurTech Engineering team, you will design and build scalable, reliable services for insurance and assurance products, ensuring robust AI/ML integration and end‑to‑end feature ownership. Your work will help travelers discover, purchase, and use protection products across Expedia Group brands. Responsibilities Design, build, and evolve scalable, reliable services and software components, including system, low‑level, API design, and data modeling. Lead technical design and delivery of complex, multi‑quarter initiatives across InsurTech systems supporting shopping, booking, servicing, and claims journeys. Collaborate across teams and lead communities of practice to foster shared learning, engineering consistency, and cross‑functional alignment. Take end‑to‑end ownership of complex features or services from design through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement in production. Write, review, and maintain high‑quality, well‑tested code, driving best practices in code quality, security, observability, resilience, and performance. Guide junior engineers, providing mentorship that raises the engineering bar. Break down ambiguous business problems into clear technical solutions reusable across domains and services. Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve traveler and business outcomes. Partner with product, analytics, and engineering teams to apply data‑driven decision making, define success metrics, and improve system health and user outcomes. Contribute to architectural direction and operational excellence by participating in design reviews, proposing improvements, and shaping long‑term strategy. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent professional experience. 8+ years of relevant professional experience. Experience leading end‑to‑end technical design and delivery of complex software initiatives through the full software development life cycle. Deep expertise in one or more modern programming languages and associated frameworks, strong understanding of system, API, and data modeling concepts. Strong experience building distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and microservices in cloud environments. Experience with AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows, including safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure code, containerization technologies, and DevOps practices. Experience working on systems that integrate with multiple services or domains, ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience in software development. Experience designing and evolving multi‑service architectures at scale, including resiliency, fault tolerance, and performance optimization. Full‑stack decision‑making experience. Hands‑on experience with data‑driven decision making, defining metrics, using logging, monitoring, and analytics to guide iterations. Strong understanding of business needs and a track record of solving team‑level technical and organizational challenges. Depth in one or more technical domains such as distributed systems, data‑intensive services, recommendation systems, or full‑stack applications, with adaptability across domains. Location & Working Arrangements This role is only available in Seattle, WA. Employees are required to work in the office at least three days a week. Relocation assistance is not offered. Compensation Base salary range for Seattle: $184,500 - $258,000. Pay may be increased up to $295,000 based on performance.
