Legal Practice Assistant - Intellectual Property - Patent

Position Overview Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking a Legal Practice Assistant to support the Intellectual Property – Patent practice group (IP-PATSU PG). This position will report to the Manager of Legal Practice Support and will reside in the Seattle office with a hybrid in‑office/remote schedule. Flexibility with overtime is required. A commitment of two years is expected, and candidates must start no later than June 29, 2026. Key Responsibilities Establish, organize and maintain case and client files and databases. Support the development and management of case and practice group timelines. Assist attorneys with the preparation and review of various patent documents and forms. Provide draft documents to attorneys and clients. Review and process Filing Receipt, Notice of Recordation, Office Actions, Notices of Allowance, Recordation of Assignment, Letters Patent, and Notice of Publication in accordance with set guidelines and procedures. Prepare pre‑issuance documents, including Issue Fee Payments and Information Disclosure Statements, when necessary. Prepare and file documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including Requests for Filing Receipt, Requests for Corrected Filing Receipt, Issue Fees, Formal Drawings and New Patent Applications. Prepare non‑technical prosecution documents such as Notices to File Missing Parts, Notices to File Corrected Application Papers, Inventor Declarations, Assignment and Powers of Attorney. Coordinate communication and planning across teams handling multiple client matters. Provide administrative support, including document production, conflict checks for new matters, and business intake materials. Perform other duties as assigned to support the IP‑PATSU PG. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required; STEM background preferred. 3.5 GPA or higher preferred. One (1) year of internship or professional experience preferred. Proactive, self‑starter with strong critical thinking and big‑picture perspective. Superior written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team. Exceptional leadership and organization skills. Proven ability to meet stringent deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and balance multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Flexibility to travel and work evening hours as needed.
