Registered Nurse (RN) - Preop/Pacu - Days

Perioperative Services consists of Pre-Admission Testing, Preop (16 bays), Operating Room (3 OR Rooms and a C-Section Room), Special Procedures (3 procedure rooms), PACU/Recovery area (9 bays), and Central Sterile (instruments are processed). We provide surgical procedures for Cardiovascular, ENT, General, GI, Ophthalmology, Ortho, Pain Management, Pulmonology, Urology. Our unit sees about 350 patients a month. We foster teamwork and value each team member’s personal and professional growth through clinical ladder advancements, certification, and education. Clinical Nurse Levels Clinical Nurse I – Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families. Responsibilities include: assisting the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintaining wellness, providing comfort, delivering and documenting age‑specific care, safely administering prescribed medications, providing direction, education, and developing leadership skills at the unit level. Clinical Nurse II – Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies knowledge to a specific patient population. Responsibilities include: assisting the health care team with prevention, recognizing changes and intervening appropriately, mobilizing resources, providing direction and education, ensuring leadership at the unit level, documenting care, and safely administering medications. Clinical Nurse III – Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies it to a specific patient population. Responsibilities include: anticipating changes, intervening, providing direction and education, serving as a role model, delivering and documenting care, and administering medications safely. Licensure and Certification For hire: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state. For continued employment: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent. Experience Requirements Clinical Nurse I: N/A required Clinical Nurse II: 12–24 months RN experience Clinical Nurse III: 3 years of clinical experience Preferred: • Clinical Nurse I – Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or related area. • Clinical Nurse II & III – Academic health care experience or experience with similar patient population. Education Requirements Required: Diploma or Associates Degree in a professional nursing program recognized by the state’s Board of Nursing. All RNs without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years unless grandfathered. Preferred: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher. Certification in specialty area for Clinical Nurse III. Hours and Call Monday‑Friday: 4 ten‑hour shifts plus rotating call. Call requirements: 7 first calls, 7 backup calls in a 13‑week period, including one weekend of first call and one weekend of backup call. Holidays include one first call and one backup call; some holidays may have no call. Shift and Schedule Clinicians work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted to meet unit requirements. Physical and Other Requirements Lifting 20–50 lbs. Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing steps/ladder, reaching overhead, extensive or repetitive motion. Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking. Fast‑paced environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
