Job Description Supervisor: Survey Manager This position is responsible for the actual field work of a survey party on various job locations and for the organization, efficiency, and accuracy of the work performed and obtained. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes that may affect the required survey; supervise the work and prioritize and coordinate the work efforts. Supervise the standard of work being performed and derive the necessary field calculations from completed work; responsible for instruments and equipment; ensure that angles, distances, and information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards. Record, draw, and illustrate, in note form, a neat and legible reproduction of work performed. Consult with computer operators and assist and direct the final computations; ensure that the final map of plat represents a comprehensive and accurate description of the field survey. Perform administrative functions, such as completing timesheets and vehicle mileage reports, maintaining expense accounts, and documenting subsequent expenditures. Enhance operations of the company as required. Requirements Handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill. Perform other duties as assigned. Safety Policies and Practices Must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in the company’s safety manual. Education Less than High School Diploma. Experience 5+ years of experience with highway/road/bridge construction required. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Driver License (subject to Motor Vehicle Record) OSHA 10/30 preferred First‑Aid and CPR preferred Language Skills Ability to read a limited number of two‑ and three‑syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Activity Level Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Manual Dexterity Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers. Ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials. Working Conditions Outdoor exposure to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.). Work Environment The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
