Director, Bioprocess Development (Biologics Research)

Insmed seeks a Director of Bioprocess Development to lead the establishment and execution of upstream and downstream bioprocess capabilities for a biologics research organization. The role involves building a high-performing team, designing state-of-the-art laboratories, and providing technical expertise across early discovery through preclinical CMC stages.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing research bioprocess development team
• Design and oversee buildout of new state-of-the-art research laboratories and define equipment strategy
• Provide technical expertise in protein expression, cell culture development, and purification processes
• Contribute directly to experimental design, troubleshooting, and data interpretation on critical programs
• Partner with cross-functional teams to align bioprocess strategies with program timelines and CMC expectations

Requirements

• PhD in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, biology, or related field with 5+ years industry experience; or M.S. with 8+ years experience
• Demonstrated biologics process development experience in biotech or pharmaceutical settings
• Deep expertise in both upstream and downstream bioprocess development
• Hands-on experience with microbial expression systems (E. coli) and mammalian expression systems
• Track record of successful tech transfer to technical operations groups and/or CDMOs
• Proven ability to build and lead teams in fast-paced, research-driven environments
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Compensation: $185,000–$252,500 annual
