Director, Software Technical Product Management

Director of Software Technical Product Management role overseeing BioInsight Platform Core at Illumina, a foundational software system enabling genomic data management, analysis workflows, and instrument connectivity. Lead platform strategy, roadmap delivery, and a team of technical product managers while partnering across engineering, sales, and regulatory functions.
Responsibilities
- Own Platform Core product vision, multi-release roadmap, and release readiness across instrument connectivity, data storage, workflows, and developer experience
- Lead and develop team of software technical product managers; establish standards for platform product excellence
- Define success metrics for platform capabilities: availability, time-to-first-analysis, workflow reliability, and API adoption
- Partner with engineering leadership on architecture decisions, technical debt management, and performance tradeoffs
- Conduct customer discovery on core platform friction; synthesize findings into prioritized investment bets
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, engineering, life sciences, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 18 years of experience in technical fields with 12+ years in product management for scientific, data, or analysis platforms
- 5+ years leading product managers or senior individual contributors
- Track record shipping large-scale platform capabilities: data services, workflow orchestration, notebooks, or instrument-to-cloud systems
- Experience with enterprise and regulated customer requirements including security, privacy, and auditability
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical complexity, navigate stakeholder ambiguity, and define outcome metrics
