Job Summary This position is for day coverage and APPs may decide between either a 36hr or 40hr position. The day shift is a 12‑hour coverage model. APPs during day coverage should expect to work from 6:45am – 7:15pm. New graduate PA applicants: Please list clinical rotations (including institution and specialty) in your resume. This is an innovative opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to collaborate with attending hospitalists on the Hospital Medicine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital. This opportunity includes direct patient care from admission to discharge and a cross‑coverage model for general adult inpatient medicine patients and subspecialty services. Each APP manages 6 patients on average, with one admission per day while promoting a cohesive relationship and effort between the hospitalists, private physicians, nurses, and the remainder of the interdisciplinary health care team. Applicants for this position should be patient‑centered, motivated, and energetic clinicians that want to be part of a large academic team with MD/DO colleagues and APP peers. The ideal candidate must be a self‑starter and able to respond, triage, and systematically care for both non‑urgent and acute issues that arise in our patients. PLEASE NOTE: Within the first year, there is an expectation to work every other weekend. This weekend requirement will be reduced in subsequent years. Preferred Experience General medical inpatient or ICU experience is preferred for experienced APPs; however, those with other APP experience may be considered. All new graduates MUST include their clinical rotations in their resumes and should include prior work experience. If a new graduate, then you must be in good standing to complete your degree. PAs: An inpatient medicine rotation at a large academic center or level 1 trauma center is preferred though candidates with other inpatient and/or ICU clinical rotations may be considered. Must possess the ability to care for critically ill adult patients with a broad range of medical problems. Display maturity and self‑confidence to follow patients with a complex management plan. Obtain accurate patient history, perform comprehensive physical exams, diagnose and treat health problems. Essential Functions Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. Perform complete histories and physical examinations. Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Develop appropriate plans of care and follow‑up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. Consistently provide high‑quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries. Perform bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population. Qualifications Education : Master’s Degree Physician Assistant required Licenses and Credentials : Physician Assistant, MA Experience : Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
