Scientific Director of Immunology

Merck seeks an experienced immunologist to serve as Scientific Director of Immunology, providing competitive intelligence and strategic insights in inflammatory bowel disease. The role involves analyzing competitor landscapes, advising on portfolio and clinical development strategies, and supporting business development initiatives across the global organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and commercial insights to guide portfolio prioritization and clinical development strategies
• Monitor therapeutic landscapes in IBD and assess competitive threats and opportunities
• Conduct deep-dive analyses of competitor activities including go-to-market and operational benchmarking
• Partner with internal research and business development teams on opportunity assessment and program design
• Maintain comprehensive understanding of regulatory, policy, and healthcare environment matters

Requirements

• PhD with 8+ years OR Master's degree with 10+ years in biotech/pharma industry
• 3-5+ years specialized experience in IBD, immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, or immuno-oncology
• Strong scientific knowledge of ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and related immunology indications
• Expertise in competitive intelligence, business development, and drug discovery processes
• Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder management, and ability to influence senior management
• Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MS, MBA, or equivalent) required

Compensation: $173,200–$272,600 base
