This position primarily supports vivarium operations, ensuring all equipment, utilities, and facility conditions meet strict compliance, performance, and environmental standards. While not stationed in the vivarium full-time this work will take place within laboratory, facility and vivarium environment, including preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, environmental checks, and vivarium-specific work orders. This hands-on role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, professionalism, and effective collaboration across Facilities and Research departments to maintain operational excellence and compliance.What your day-to-day will look like:Conduct regular vivarium walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, operational readiness, and compliance with facility and environmental standardsComplete all preventative and corrective maintenance for vivarium equipment, including HVAC components, air handling units, lighting systems, water supply systems, alarms, monitoring devices, and specialized mechanical systemsRespond promptly to daily maintenance requests and vivarium-specific work orders, including plumbing, electrical, lighting, and general repairs to minimize disruption to research operationsPerform scheduled preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, pumps, motors, mechanical equipment, and building systems throughout the facilityExecute welding tasks (MIG/TIG/arc) for metal repair, fabrication, equipment reinforcement, and structural support, ensuring safe operation and maintenance of welding equipmentConduct routine building inspections (interior and exterior), including compliance walkthroughs, safety checks, and IACUC inspections and repairs.Carry out general facility upkeep including carpentry, drywall repair, tiling, cabinetry work, and light remodeling to maintain a professional environmentRequired Qualifications:Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systemsProven ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair welding equipment and select appropriate materials for each jobStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to identify cost-effective, durable maintenance solutionsAbility to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders up to 30', work at heights, and stand for extended periodsStrong customer service skills with clear, professional communication skills for interaction with site managers, research teams, and external vendorsBackground in commercial facility maintenance or construction trades (carpentry, tiling, drywall, finishing)Experience with MIG/TIG/arc welding with the ability to safely and effectively operate welding machines and related tools preferred.Preferred Qualifications:1-2 years of related work experience, especially in repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or carpentryFamiliarity with controlled environments, air-handling systems, environmental chambers, or regulated research spaces (vivarium experience)Experience with a CMMS or digital maintenance platform (eMaint, Maximo, FMX, Service Channel, Maintenance Connection, Upkeep, or similar)Ability to track PM schedules, asset history, inventory, and compliance documentation using maintenance softwareComfort using mobile devices or tablets for inspections, reporting, and real-time updatesWillingness to participate in an on-call rotation to resolve urgent facility issues during off-hoursWaste water license preferred, trade school, union training, military service or college is desirableQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an applicable technical training program is desirable3+ years of relevant experience in general building repair and maintenance, basic plumbing, and electricalAbility to read, understand and follow SOP's for procedures, buildings and equipmentStrong communication skills, both oral and writtenStrong computer skills, Microsoft office and CMMS experience a plusPossess mechanical and electrical aptitudeMust have ability to regularly lift up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.Must have the ability to safely perform overhead work while standing on ladders up to 28 ft.Must have the ability to regularly walk, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, lift, push, pull, etc. in order to test and perform maintenance.Must have or be able to obtain Aerial and Boom lift certificates (performed in house)Location: Shrewbury, MA - OnsiteWork Shift: 1st - Morning/Day ShiftThis position does not provide visa sponsorship.
