Job Description

The Pouch Inspector is responsible for inspecting flexible packaging pouches throughout the manufacturing process to ensure all products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards. This role focuses on identifying defects, verifying measurements, and confirming overall package appearance using visual checks and measuring tools in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent documentation of inspection results, and effective communication with production and quality teams.

Responsibilities

• Inspect finished and in-process flexible packaging pouches for quality, appearance, and compliance with established specifications and standards.
• Identify and document defects such as print issues, seal defects, contamination, incorrect dimensions, wrinkles, holes, or material inconsistencies.
• Verify product measurements, seal integrity, print quality, and overall package appearance according to quality requirements.
• Perform visual and manual inspections using measuring tools, gauges, calipers, hand tools, and other quality inspection equipment.
• Complete quality documentation and inspection reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate quality concerns and identified defects to machine operators, supervisors, and quality personnel so corrective actions can be taken.
• Segregate and report non-conforming material in accordance with company procedures and quality control guidelines.
• Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and handling of inspected products to maintain traceability and product integrity.
• Work closely with production personnel, lab coworkers, and other team members in a cleanroom environment to support continuous product flow and quality.
• Perform general production, packaging, picking, and packing tasks as needed to support manufacturing operations.
• Follow all cleanroom rules and safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to policies regarding fragrances and phone use.
• Support inventory and material handling activities related to films, foils, chemicals, peelable solutions, and other packaging materials.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized inspection area and contribute to ongoing quality assurance and improvement efforts.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience in manufacturing, quality inspection, packaging, or production is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify minor defects in materials and finished products.
• Basic math and measurement skills to accurately verify dimensions and record inspection data.
• Ability to perform visual inspections and use measuring tools, gauges, calipers, and other quality inspection equipment.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with repetitive inspection tasks.
• Ability to complete quality documentation and inspection reports clearly and accurately.
• Strong communication skills to effectively report quality concerns to machine operators and quality personnel.
• Ability to work well in a team-based environment with coworkers in the lab and on the production floor.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with general production, assembly, picking, packing, and material handling is beneficial.
• Experience in quality control or quality assurance processes is a plus.
• Familiarity with machine operation or machine operating in a manufacturing setting is advantageous.
• Experience with packaging operations and inventory support is helpful.
• Ability to interpret basic product specifications or blueprints related to packaging requirements.
• Comfort working with films, foils, chemicals, and peelable solutions in a controlled environment.
• Willingness to train on first shift before transitioning to assigned shift.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cleanroom environment within a manufacturing facility that produces flexible packaging materials for the healthcare industry. The standard schedules include a 2nd shift from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and a 3rd shift from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am, Monday through Friday. Training is provided on 1st shift, typically from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, for approximately 4 to 6 weeks before transitioning to the assigned shift. The work involves extensive sitting while performing detailed inspections, including taking approximately ten measurements per pouch during quality checks alongside 4–5 other team members in the cleanroom. Team members work with films, foils, chemicals, and peelable solutions and must follow strict cleanroom protocols. Personal protective equipment and steel-toed shoes are required, and fragrances and phone use are not allowed in the lab. The environment is team-based, with regular interaction with lab coworkers and production personnel on the floor, and occasional visits from clients to the facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Addison, IL.

The pay range for this position is $18.90 - $19.80/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
