Head Coach - Canoe Paddling (Boys)

Position: Head Coach - Canoe Paddling (Boys) – High School (JV & Varsity) Salary: $3,500 stipend paid once at end of each season.
JOB SUMMARY
The Head Coach is responsible for developing student‑athletes in the sport of Canoe Paddling (Boys) at the high school level, including coaching and supervising both JV and Varsity teams. Duties include creating practice schedules, recruiting and mentoring assistant/coaches, collaborating with the Athletic Department, and evaluating athlete progress. This is a temporary, seasonal position concluding at the end of the season, with renewal subject to Athletic Director approval.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction: Develop student‑athletes through safe drills, skills, strategies, lesson planning, and positive reinforcement. Provide off‑season training opportunities. Supervision Duties: Track attendance, communicate absences with students/parents, monitor eligibility per Mid‑Pacific, ILH, HHSAA regulations, secure equipment, issue and return uniforms, support academic performance, and communicate supply needs. Communication: Articulate program vision, conduct a pre‑season parent meeting, share practice schedules, respond promptly to concerns. Leadership: Serve as a role model, promote sportsmanship, attend required meetings/events, support students’ social/emotional needs, comply with governing rules, recruit and train all program coaches. Safety: Supervise practice and competition environments, identify hazards, report injuries, follow the Mid‑Pacific Athletics Emergency Action Plan. School Safety Responsibilities: Participate in safety program development, follow safety procedures, report injuries/hazards, act as a role model for safe behaviors, maintain equipment, report sexual abuse as required. Professional Competencies: Demonstrate professional knowledge, pursue continuous learning, build relationships, create an inclusive environment, seek leadership opportunities.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must hold or be willing to obtain valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification. Preferred: Proven experience as a successful head coach with strong communication skills.WORK SCHEDULE
In‑person, on‑call position requiring fewer than 20 hours per week during the season.OTHER SKILLS
Effective, efficient communication with Athletic Department, coaching staff, maintenance staff, faculty/staff, student‑athletes, parents, and the athletic community. Organization, deadline management, multitasking, and positive role modeling are required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regular standing, walking, paddling, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, twisting, pushing, pulling, balance, and hand/arm use. Ability to lift, carry, load, unload, launch, retrieve, and move canoes, paddles, and equipment weighing up to approximately 25 pounds. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and water environments.MENTAL DEMANDS
Problem‑solving, decision‑making, data interpretation, organization, clear verbal and written communication, and thoughtful planning on a daily basis.EQUIPMENT USE
Use of orcas, paddles, PFDs, amas, iakos, trailers, canoe dollies, safety and rescue gear, first aid supplies, computers, tablets, email, Google Workspace, and other technology. May operate school vehicles if authorized.WORKING CONDITIONS
