The Receiving Inspector verifies that all incoming materials, components, and assemblies meet internal engineering and customer quality requirements. This role applies Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), reviews supplier documentation, and inspects products to industry standards such as AWS and IPC/WHMA-A-620 for cable and harness assemblies. The inspector ensures that only conforming materials enter production by performing thorough visual, dimensional, and documentation checks and by maintaining accurate records within the quality management system.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed visual, dimensional, and documentation inspections of incoming materials, fabricated components, and electrical assemblies.
• Interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and blueprints.
• Inspect wire harnesses, electrical connectors, and assemblies in line with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship and harness inspection standards.
• Verify supplier certifications, test reports, and material traceability against purchase orders, drawings, and quality requirements.
• Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming materials and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) in accordance with the Quality Management System.
• Maintain, update, and track NCRs and related documentation to ensure accurate records of nonconforming materials.
• Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to evaluate nonconforming items and support disposition decisions.
• Collaborate with suppliers and Purchasing to implement Supplier Corrective Actions (SCARs) and verify their effectiveness.
• Maintain complete and accurate inspection records, calibration compliance data, and traceability documentation for all inspected items.
• Support internal and supplier audits by providing inspection data, records, and process information as needed.
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives and root cause analysis activities related to incoming materials and supplier performance.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and ISO 9001 quality system requirements during all inspection activities.
• Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges to verify dimensions.
• Enter inspection results into ERP or quality management systems accurately and in a timely manner.
• Support quality control and quality assurance functions by providing feedback on inspection trends and recurring issues.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of quality inspection experience in manufacturing or fabrication.
• Hands-on experience applying GD&T and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Knowledge and practical experience with IPC/WHMA-A-620 inspection criteria for cable and harness assemblies.
• Experience with nonconformance reporting, Material Review Board (MRB) processes, and supplier corrective action activities.
• Familiarity with ERP and/or Quality Management System (QMS) software, including data entry of inspection results.
• Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and height gauges.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate inspection results and support root cause analysis.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal departments and suppliers.
• High attention to detail and strong documentation accuracy in all inspection and reporting activities.

• Associate degree or technical certification in a related field is preferred.
• Experience inspecting weldments, machined parts, or electrical harnesses is preferred.
• Working knowledge of AWS and related material or welding standards is an asset.
• Experience with quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection processes in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to interpret and apply additional material and industry standards as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in manufacturing and warehouse areas with moderate noise and activity levels. You must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and safely lift and move up to 40 pounds as part of daily inspection activities. Work involves frequent interaction with production areas, inspection stations, and storage locations, using standard precision measurement tools and working within an ISO 9001 quality system environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Riverside, CA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $31.00/hr.
