Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Varied Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience required License: Valid nursing license required for submission Certifications: ACLS (AHA) BLS (AHA) NIHSS PALS (AHA) Must-Have: Acute recovery experience Description: The unit has a total of 8 PACU and 7 Pre-Certs. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner. Charge nurse duties are part of this position. There are no nurse aides assigned. There is no weekend requirement for in-house staff; call is only required. Core staff members rotate holidays. Scrub colors are provided. Telemedicine services are available, and candidates must be able to read and interpret EKG strips. Ventilator management is not part of this unit's responsibilities. A hospitalist or intensivist is available on-site. An IV team is available if necessary. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are provided 24/7. Call specifics include varied shifts on weekdays and weekends. Potential call shifts include 5 weekend shifts and 8 weeknight shifts per quarter. Weeknight call shifts typically run from 2200 to 0500 or 2200 to 0700. Weekend call shifts typically run from 0700 to 1900 or 1900 to 0700. Floating between units may be necessary as needed. Orientation on the floor will take 1 to 2 days with a preceptor. Common diagnoses and types of patients include total hip and knee replacements, general surgeries, da Vinci surgeries, neurology, and urology. This is not a trauma hospital. The PACU may accommodate ICU patients until beds open up in the unit. The cancellation policy allows for the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Cerner.
