Structural Engineer/Designer

Location: Canton, MI Job Type: Full-Time Position Summary International Door is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Structural Engineer to join our engineering team in Canton, MI. This role is responsible for designing, analyzing, and supporting custom industrial door systems, structural steel components, overhead cranes, conveyor support systems, and related material handling structures. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with structural design software, and the ability to collaborate with customers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to deliver safe, cost-effective solutions. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Design and analyze structural components and systems for industrial door applications, overhead cranes, conveyor systems, and supporting structures. Perform structural calculations to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and customer specifications. Create and review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations using AutoCAD and other engineering software. Evaluate steel structures, connections, foundations, and support systems for strength, stability, and load requirements. Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, fabrication personnel, and customers throughout project development. Review customer requirements and provide technical recommendations and solutions. Conduct site visits and field measurements as needed. Assist with troubleshooting engineering and installation issues during manufacturing and field implementation. Ensure compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, AISC, ASCE, IBC, and other applicable industry standards. Prepare engineering reports, calculations, and supporting documentation for customer approval and permitting requirements. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve product performance and manufacturing efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering field. Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred or ability to obtain licensure. Minimum 3-5 years of structural engineering experience preferred. Experience with structural steel design and analysis. Proficiency in AutoCAD and structural analysis software. Knowledge of AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, and MIOSHA regulations. Experience with overhead cranes, industrial doors, conveyor systems, or material handling equipment is highly preferred. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Physical Requirements Ability to occasionally visit manufacturing facilities and customer job sites. Ability to climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and perform site inspections when required. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
