Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

The HVAC/Process Duct/Fire Protection Lead holds site-wide technical ownership of the HVAC, process ductwork, and fire protection subcontracts on Project Cardinal, and leads the Subcontract Technical Representatives assigned to those scopes across the buildings. Where an STR owns one subcontract in one building, this position sets the standard those assignments work to: it leads the discipline, resolves technical issues that cross subcontract or building boundaries, and is accountable for consistency of field execution, quality practice and turnover readiness across every HVAC, ductwork and fire protection package on the project. The lead reports to the Subcontract's Construction Manager and functions as a discipline lead alongside the area field engineering team.

Major Responsibilities:

The lead serves as the senior technical and field coordination authority between the project team and the HVAC, process duct, and fire protection subcontractors. The role directs daily subcontractor coordination across multiple packages, sets and enforces a common approach to technical oversight, quality inspection and testing, submittal and document management, and progress and risk reporting. The lead mentors and develops the STRs assigned to these scopes, balances their assignments against the forward work volume, and escalates safety, quality, and schedule concerns to project leadership. The role interfaces with Procurement, Project Controls, Engineering, and QA to support subcontract formation, resolve execution issues, maintain configuration control, and align subcontractor performance with project objectives, while recognizing that commercial, contractual, and scope changes remain the responsibility of Procurement and Project Management.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Basic Qualifications

• Proficient level of understanding of SMACNA and MFMA standards and guidelines.
• Ability to read and understand isometrics, P&IDs, orthographics, plans, and other design drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of technical representatives or field engineers across multiple concurrent subcontracts.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards is required.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• An understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures, is preferred.
• Experience in semiconductor fabrication facilities is preferred, proficiency in Navisworks Simulate and 3D model navigation is preferred.
• Proficient level of understanding of IBC, NFPA, ASME B31.3, ASCE 7, AISC, FM Global, RCSC.
• Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Aconex, DSCS, Unifier, Agile, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
• Experience supporting startup, testing, and commissioning turnover of HVAC and fire protection systems.
