FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor- Theatre and Performance Studies. Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.Fort Valley State University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution and does not discriminate against applicants, students, or employees on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or marital or veteran status.JOB SUMMARY:The Department of Arts & Communications is now accepting applications for a pool of open rank, part-time and limited term faculty positions in the Theatre and Performance Studies concentration in the Visual and Performing Arts program for the 2026-2027 academic year. These positions are on an as needed, semester-by-semester basis. Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with credentials. These positions are for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaching undergraduate courses in Theatre and/or Performance Studies (disciplines including acting, design, technology, history, theory, performance studies, or others as needed)Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.Teach Intermediate Acting using established course outcomes and approved syllabusGuide students in scene study, character analysis, and performance techniqueIntroduce and contextualize multiple acting methods Emphasize professional rehearsal etiquette, emotional boundaries, and de-roling practicesProvide constructive, timely feedback on student performancesAssess student learning through performances, written reflections, and participationMaintain regular communication with the Department Chair regarding course progressSubmit grades and required documentation in accordance with university policieMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A minimum of a Master's degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Theatre/Performance Studies or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire. OR A minimum of a Master's degree, or the foreign equivalent, in a non-related discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline is required at the time of hire.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSProfessional acting, directing, or dramaturgical experienceExperience working with diverse student populationsA minimum of two years collegiate and/or professional teaching experience, along with an established record of professional experience in the field.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Demonstrated experience teaching or training actors at the collegiate or professional levelKnowledge of multiple acting methodologiesCommitment to ethical performance practices and student well-beingREQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO ATTACHCV Cover Letter Unofficial Transcripts (Official Transcripts and Official International Course-by-Course Evaluations Due Upon Hire) Names, phone numbers, and email addresses of three or professional references.
