Sterile Processing TechLocation: Omega Hospital – Metairie, LAPosition SummaryThe Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT) is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This includes advanced instrumentation such as DaVinci robotic systems, urology scopes, and low-temperature sterilization systems (STERRAD). This role ensures compliance with DNV, AAMI, AORN, and infection prevention standards to support safe surgical operations.Key ResponsibilitiesDecontamination & CleaningPerform manual and mechanical cleaning of surgical instruments, including urology scopes and robotic instrumentsOperate washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and automated systemsFollow proper PPE and infection control protocolsInspection & AssemblyInspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality, including delicate robotic instrumentsAssemble trays according to surgeon preference cardsSterilizationOperate steam sterilizers (autoclaves) and STERRAD low-temperature sterilization systemsSelect correct sterilization methods per manufacturer IFUs (including DaVinci instruments)Document cycle parameters and ensure complianceSpecialty Equipment HandlingProcess and maintain DaVinci robotic instruments per manufacturer guidelinesHandle urology scopes with proper cleaning, high-level disinfection, and sterilization techniquesEnsure proper use and maintenance of STERRAD systemsStorage & DistributionMaintain sterile storage conditionsPrepare and deliver case carts accurately and on timeQuality & CompliancePerform biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoringMaintain logs and documentation for DNV complianceQualificationsCRCST or CBSPD certification preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent1–2 years sterile processing experience (hospital preferred)Preferred QualificationsExperience with DaVinci robotic instrumentationExperience with STERRAD or low-temperature sterilization systemsExperience handling urology scopes and endoscopic equipmentSkillsAttention to detail and organizationAbility to work in a fast-paced surgical environmentStrong communication skillsPhysical RequirementsStand for extended periodsLift up to 35 lbs
