Job Title: Press Brake Operator / CNC Machine Operator / Saw Operator

Job Description

This role supports a high-volume metal fabrication shop by operating press brakes, sheet steel laser cutters, CNC-controlled mills and lathes, and multiple horizontal and vertical band saws. You will interpret detailed blueprints, follow precise measurements and instructions, and contribute to the safe and accurate production of sheet metal and steel components. The position offers opportunities to grow into more advanced, top-tier roles through demonstrated skill and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate press brakes to form sheet metal and steel components according to detailed blueprints and specifications.
• Set up and operate sheet steel laser cutters to cut materials to precise dimensions.
• Run CNC-controlled mills and lathes as a top-tier machine operator, ensuring accurate and consistent machining of parts.
• Program CNC equipment as required to support production needs, adjusting programs for accuracy and efficiency.
• Operate multiple horizontal and vertical band saws and a hydraulic punch as a saw operator, cutting and punching materials to specified measurements.
• Read and interpret detailed blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine material requirements, dimensions, and operational sequences.
• Use tape measures and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances throughout the production process.
• Follow detailed instructions and measurements to ensure all parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.
• Monitor machines during operation, making adjustments as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality, identifying and reporting any defects or discrepancies.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following shop safety rules and best practices.
• Collaborate with team members across departments to support workflow and meet production schedules.

Essential Skills

• Proven ability to operate press brakes in a metal fabrication or similar environment.
• Experience operating sheet steel laser cutters for precision cutting applications.
• Hands-on experience running CNC-controlled mills and lathes in a production setting.
• CNC programming experience sufficient to set up and adjust programs for production equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong skill using a tape measure and other measuring tools to verify precise measurements.
• Experience operating multiple horizontal and vertical band saws.
• Experience operating a hydraulic punch for metal fabrication work.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and measurements accurately and consistently.
• Comfort working with sheet metal and steel components in a shop environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Additional programming experience is considered a nice-to-have and supports advancement into more complex CNC roles.
• Previous exposure to brake press, punch press, and sheet metal fabrication processes.
• Familiarity with working in a large, department-based shop environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Willingness to learn and move into more skilled positions as opportunities arise.

Work Environment

You will work in a large, high-volume shop environment that is organized into sections by department. The facility is not climate controlled; temperatures are managed with fans and heaters to keep conditions workable throughout the year. You will regularly work with CNC machines, press brakes, sheet steel laser cutters, mills, lathes, band saws, and a hydraulic punch. The environment is busy and production-focused, reflecting ongoing demand and consistent workload. Appropriate safety footwear and gear are expected, and a safety stipend is available upon conversion to support proper work attire.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.66 - $29.05/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
