Cardiology Advanced Practice Provider

RHSC in St. Paul, MN is looking for exceptional, patient focused Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Cardiology APP team and make a difference for our patients and our community.

The Cardiology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing both inpatient and outpatient services. In the inpatient setting, the APP works as a team with the attending cardiologist to perform and staff initial consults, subsequent follow up visits and to coordinate patient care. In the outpatient setting, the APP will see patients independently in the cardiology clinic. Outreach clinic may also be expected. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hr shifts or 10hr shifts for total of 40 hr per week. Occasional weekends.

Required Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
• If a Physician Assistant:
  • Current registration to practice as a Physician Assistant in Minnesota plus current national certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant & Approved by Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for prescription writing privileges (verified during credentialing process)
• If a Nurse Practitioner:
  • Currently licensed as a APRN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Currently licensed as a RN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • AANP certification
• Current BLS, ACLS, and DEA certification (verified during credentialing process)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as an independently practicing App
• 1-2 years previous Cardiology experience

The Cardiology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing both inpatient and outpatient services. 1. Communicates hospital course and treatment plan to referring primary care physicians upon discharge.
2. Makes and accepts referrals to/from, consults with, cooperates with and refers to all other types of healthcare providers, including primary and specialty care physicians, nurse practitioners and other allied personnel.
3. Discriminates between situation requiring independent management, collaborative management with physician or further referral
4. Collaborates with physician when unusual incidents or changes in patient' condition occur.
5. Coordinates care involving other healthcare providers.
6. Functions as mentor/resource and educator for other healthcare team and staff.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Cardiology APP has no formal leadership responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work environment includes the inpatient nursing units and the clinic setting. Stands 4-6 hours and walks 2-4 hours daily while performing duties. May view a computer screen for up to 3 hours a day. May lift, push or pull equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be able to transport self throughout the hospital. Must be able to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Office Environment : May be exposed to printer/copier cartridges, no extreme conditions.

Inpatient Environment : May be exposed to hazardous substances, harmful physical agents, and infectious agents that exist in the patient care area in the performance of duties.

EQUIPMENT:

Office Environment : Computer, fax, printer, copy machine and other office machines.

Patient Care Unit : Needles, syringes, vital sign monitors and hemodynamic lines.
