About the Role The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is seeking a Peer Specialist to support clients with lived experience in substance use, homelessness, and mental health challenges. The role focuses on empowerment, advocacy, and coordinated services. Responsibilities Provides mentorship and support to clients using lived experience to build skills in goal setting, problem solving, resilience, and empowerment. Facilitates counseling and activities for clients in recovery from substance use disorders in individual or group settings to promote connection and agency. Helps clients coordinate and navigate critical integrated services—including health care, housing assistance, and behavioral health—in partnership with internal teams and community partners. Transports or escorts clients to scheduled appointments at Coalition properties and elsewhere using a CCH vehicle or an approved personal vehicle. Collaborates with Coalition staff to foster trusting relationships with clients and ensure services are timely and aligned to individual goals. Conducts ongoing client outreach within the community to monitor recovery‑oriented needs. Ensures timely and accurate recording of all clinical and non‑clinical services, communications, and tasks in the EHR and other systems as required. Qualifications Completion of an accredited Peer Specialist training program highly preferred. CPR/First Aid certification required within thirty days of employment. Bi‑lingual English‑Spanish and/or ASL preferred. Must have and maintain a Colorado driver’s license in good standing within thirty days of hire; valid driver’s license required (waiver possible based on experience). Prior peer mentoring experience serving individuals with behavioral health challenges and/or homelessness highly preferred. Must be a person with lived experience of substance use disorders, homelessness support services, and/or mental health challenges with prior and/or ongoing recovery activity. Demonstrated knowledge of confidentiality protocols and privacy laws/organizational policies regarding sensitive information. Active listening, trauma‑informed care, empathy, and ability to establish trust with clients. Recognition of professional boundaries and ethical standards in all interactions. Proficiency in advocacy for client needs and rights to ensure access to necessary services. Commitment to inclusive language and cultural competency. Completion of credentialing and privileging process prior to start date.
