Operating Room Assistant Technician - Impactful OR Support

Position Summary The Surgery Center Operating Room Assistant assists the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Responsibilities Assist the surgical team during procedures, serving as a retractor holder. Arrange sterile setup, adjust lights, and clean the operating room. Prepare patient skin and perform skin preparation prior to surgery. Assist with moving and positioning patients and transporting patients and equipment as directed by the RN. Provide personal care to patients and participate in the plan of care. Communicate observations and data to the Clinical Associate and document patient care activities. Collect test specimens according to established procedures. Assist customers in a friendly, prompt, and caring manner while maintaining confidentiality and respect. Support the team by stocking the facility, maintaining inventory, and picking supplies for procedures. Provide quality customer service and participate in performance improvement efforts. Assume responsibility for professional growth and development. Qualifications Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. BLS certification required. Applicants will be trained; skill required within 30‑60 days of hire. Ability to speak and write in English required; bilingual preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Patient care education or direct patient care experience required. Previous surgical experience preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated flexibility, priority setting, problem solving, and sound judgment. Proficiency with Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire. Performance Expectations Demonstrates the competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. Work Environment Potential exposure to hazards in the hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous waste, and potential injury. Requires considerable standing, reaching, and walking. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and maintain retraction for long periods. Good hand/eye coordination, finger/hand dexterity, visual and hearing acuity required. Reporting Relationship This position reports to department leadership.
