Prospect Grove High School (PGHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Secondary Math Teacher to join our educational team.

PGHS is a Pennsylvania-licensed Private Academic School operated by Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Services, Inc. (DARS). Our school provides education to adolescent males residing at Manos House, a residential treatment program serving young people who are working to overcome substance use and other challenges while continuing their education.

This is not a traditional high school teaching position—and for the right educator, that is one of its greatest advantages.

Our very small class sizes, supportive environment, and individualized approach allow teachers to spend less time managing large classrooms and more time doing what brought most educators into the profession in the first place: teaching, building relationships, and helping students succeed.

The Math Teacher will provide secondary-level mathematics instruction to students working toward high school graduation while helping them remain on track with the academic requirements of their home school districts.

Instruction may include courses such as:

• Pre-Algebra
• Algebra I
• Algebra II
• Geometry
• Consumer Math
• Personal Finance
• General Mathematics
• Math-related electives

Because our students come to us from school districts throughout Pennsylvania, they arrive with a wide range of academic experiences, abilities, and credit needs. Some students may be working at or near grade level, while others may have significant gaps in their foundational math skills.

Our small classes provide teachers with the opportunity to identify those gaps, provide individualized instruction, and help students experience success in a subject that may have previously been frustrating or challenging for them.

Math at PGHS is also an excellent opportunity to connect classroom learning to real life. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate practical applications such as budgeting, banking, credit, interest, wages, taxes, measurements, percentages, financial literacy, career-related mathematics, and other skills students will use as they transition into adulthood.

PGHS operates with exceptionally small class sizes, typically averaging approximately five students. This allows teachers to provide a level of individualized instruction and support that is rarely possible in a traditional secondary school.

Teachers may teach multiple sections of the same or similar courses, reducing the number of completely different lessons that must be prepared each day.

Our students benefit from structure, consistency, positive relationships, and educators who recognize that academic success can play an important role in helping a young person see a different future for himself.

Teachers are not expected to do this alone. PGHS staff work as part of a larger team that includes educators, counselors, treatment professionals, residential staff, and administrators who share the goal of helping each student succeed.

Education at Prospect Grove goes beyond completing coursework.

Our students participate in career exploration, workforce preparation, postsecondary planning, financial literacy, community partnerships, and other opportunities designed to prepare them for life after treatment and high school.

Math instruction plays an important role in that preparation. Whether a student plans to attend college, enter a trade, join the workforce, or pursue technical training, practical math skills are essential to becoming an independent and successful adult.

Teachers have the opportunity to become an important part of that process and often see progress in students who may not have experienced success in a traditional school environment.

We are looking for an educator who:

• Has a passion for teaching mathematics and can make math understandable, practical, and relevant.
• Enjoys working with teenagers and building positive professional relationships.
• Can differentiate instruction for students with varying academic abilities and significant differences in math skills.
• Is comfortable identifying and addressing gaps in foundational math skills.
• Can connect mathematics to real-world situations, careers, financial literacy, and independent living.
• Understands that student success sometimes begins with engagement, trust, consistency, and small accomplishments.
• Can maintain appropriate structure and expectations while providing encouragement and support.
• Works well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Is flexible, dependable, creative, and willing to approach education differently when traditional methods have not worked for a student.

Candidates should possess, or be eligible to obtain, the appropriate Pennsylvania certification to teach secondary Mathematics in a licensed Private Academic School.
