Director Infection Prevention

Position Summary As the Infection Prevention Program Director, you will manage and supervise all activities related to the prevention, control, documentation and reporting of nosocomial acquired infections and communicable diseases across critical care units. The role includes setting standards, evaluating compliance, overseeing surveillance, analysis, and reporting, and designing, leading and maintaining a hospital‑based infection prevention and control program. You will provide support to critical care and dialysis departments across Arizona, collaborate with the infection prevention committee and other stakeholders, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA and state regulations. Core Functions Ensures that all services provided meet the facility’s needs and expectations. Manages the department in a cost‑effective manner by forecasting budgetary and staffing needs, maintaining expenses within limits, and developing action plans to correct variances. Establishes and administers departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures; reviews policies to identify discrepancies and implements revisions. Provides ongoing assessment of performance, analyzes infection outcome data, and identifies improvement opportunities. Develops and coordinates the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility, formulating and evaluating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with JC, OSHA, CDC, CMS and other regulatory agencies. Serves as a subject‑matter expert and resource for staff, leaders, medical staff, patients and the community. Initiates epidemiological investigations of significant infection clusters and single cases, and provides expertise on emerging infections and public health crises. Directs and assists in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection prevention committee, medical staff committees, executive committees and other relevant authorities. Provides leadership for infection prevention at large healthcare entities (>100 beds) and contributes to system‑level infection prevention activities for internal and external customers, including accreditation bodies and payers. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH), Business Administration (MBA), another healthcare‑related field, or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience. Certification in Infection Control (CIC). Active Basic Life Support certification if working primarily in an acute or ambulatory setting. Five years of experience in infection prevention or disease surveillance in a public health setting. Demonstrated flexibility, service‑oriented philosophy, team leadership, problem analysis, project management, conflict resolution, and strong oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in computer skills, research, and basic statistical analysis. Additional related education and/or experience.
