System Chief Division of Infectious Diseases – Physician (Manhattan, NY)

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking an accomplished Physician or exceptional PhD Researcher (with a clinical partner) to assume the role of System Chief for the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine. The System Chief will lead administrative, clinical, research, and educational activities across the Mount Sinai Health System, overseeing approximately 85 full‑ and part‑time faculty and 22 voluntary physicians.

The candidate will be responsible for leading growth of NIH‑funded research, expanding clinical services, developing fellowship training programs, mentoring junior faculty, and ensuring high quality patient care across on‑campus and off‑campus sites.

Responsibilities

• Overall management of the Division across on‑campus and off‑campus sites, including development of training programs, growth of clinical and research programs, and financial viability.
• Teaching medical students, postdoctoral trainees, and continuing medical education, including bedside training and didactics.
• Developing and maintaining fellowship training programs that comply with ABIM and residency review requirements.
• Growing the NIH‑funded research program, including leading grant applications and developing K awardees.
• Fostering career development of junior faculty through mentoring.
• Expanding inpatient and outpatient clinical services, including faculty practice.
• Overseeing quality of care on inpatient services, outpatient clinics, and faculty practice.
• Providing physician coverage and organizational leadership for the Division’s clinic.
• Developing strategic plans aligned with departmental and institutional goals.

Qualifications

• MD or MD/PhD, or highly qualified PhD.
• New York medical license and board certification or eligibility in Infectious Diseases.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine, clinical practice, or professional societies.
• National recognition in clinical, translational, and/or basic research.
• Experience and leadership qualities to sustain and grow all facets of the division’s missions and foster a collaborative work environment.
• High character and ability to lead by example.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a diverse environment.

Compensation

Compensation range from 350 K to 500 K (not including bonuses or incentive compensation or benefits).

Mount Sinai Health System provides a salary range to comply with New York City law on salary transparency. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialties, historical productivity, collections, and community needs and may differ from the listed range.
