Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Pathology

Description

This is an on-site, contract position at the Associate experience level, within the Medical Practice industry. This role offers the opportunity to provide essential diagnostic services to patients while working alongside a collaborative team of medical professionals.

As a Locum Pathology physician, you will be responsible for performing and interpreting laboratory tests, examining tissue specimens, and providing accurate diagnoses that support patient care decisions. Your expertise will directly contribute to the quality and safety of our medical practice, ensuring that clinicians have the reliable pathologic insights they need to deliver optimal treatment.

 

Responsibilities

• Perform and interpret gross and microscopic examinations of surgical specimens, biopsies, and cytology samples.
• Diagnose diseases and conditions based on laboratory findings and pathological patterns.
• Collaborate with referring physicians to discuss diagnostic results and recommend appropriate follow-up.
• Prepare clear, accurate, and timely pathology reports that support clinical decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with medical practice standards, safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
• Participate in internal quality assurance activities, including slide reviews and cases discussions.
• Consult with multidisciplinary teams on complex or unusual pathology cases.
• Maintain proficiency in current pathology techniques, laboratory procedures, and diagnostic best practices.
• Manage a varied caseload efficiently while prioritizing accuracy and patient safety.
• Contribute to a positive, professional, and collaborative medical practice environment.

Requirements

• Medical Doctor (MD» degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO» degree.
• Specialization in Pathology, with board certification or board eligibility preferred.
• Eligibility for a valid state medical license in good standing.
• Associate-level experience in pathology, clinical diagnostics, or a related medical field.
• Strong diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to diagnostic accuracy.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with physicians, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work independently in an on-site setting while managing multiple cases and priorities.
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems and electronic health records.
• Dedication to ethical medical practice, patient safety, and continuous professional development.

Level I Trauma Center

Schedule: Monday-Friday (8a-5p)

Call Requirement: Some night and weekend call

Setting: Inpatient and outpatient

Responsibilities: Blood smears, body fluids, lymph nodes, bone marrow, extranodal lymphoma, and flow cytometry sign out

Support Staff: Clinical pathologists, surgical pathologists, AP/CP resident

EMR: Epic

Must be board-certified or board-eligible
