Picture your day at GFL Environmental: you step into the scalehouse, fire up the computerized truck scale, and greet the first driver with a friendly “Buenos días.” You test the scales, confirm the platform is clear, and make sure every truck is perfectly positioned for precise measurements. Throughout the day, you’ll keep the traffic flowing safely, direct drivers to the correct tipping areas, and protect our facilities by turning away hazardous or unauthorized materials.

What you’ll do

• Weigh in every truck entering the landfill, transfer station, or recycling center and verify proper positioning for accurate readings; test scales daily.
• Deliver prompt, courteous service to all customers and drivers—English and Spanish fluency required.
• Operate a register; process cash and credit card payments; balance the cash drawer at the start and end of each shift.
• Inspect incoming loads, ask drivers clarifying questions as needed, and enter detailed load and customer/truck information into the computer system.
• Use the computerized scale to determine weights, apply the appropriate rates, and print charge tickets.
• Direct drivers to the designated tipping area; redirect loads that contain prohibited, hazardous, or otherwise non-compliant materials.
• Collect tipping fees from customers without charge privileges according to established rate schedules.
• Accurately complete data entry, perform basic math, and maintain legible, organized records.
• File weight tickets, secure and reconcile cash receipts, and track all inbound and outbound loads crossing the scales.
• Answer incoming calls and provide pricing information to the public.
• Follow all required safety procedures and perform other related duties as assigned.

About you

• High school diploma or GED desired.
• Experience in an office or retail environment with cash/credit transaction processing.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required.

Physical and mental demands

• Manually lift/move up to 10 lbs; push/move up to 20 lbs occasionally.
