Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in Materials Science or Electrochemistry Reference No.: CE 2026/10 In the department Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage, we focus on fundamental aspects of novel battery concepts like sulphur cathodes and lithium metal anodes. Our aim is to understand the crucial mechanisms that lead to their marked capacity fading. Our department has a strong expertise in operando studies of battery systems, which is closely connected to our efforts to understand the battery failure mechanisms and synthesize new nanostructured materials for lithium/sulphur cells. Your Tasks Design, fabrication, and electrochemical testing of electrodes and Li‑S batteries (coin and pouch cells) integrating sensors and self‑healing (SH) materials developed by project partners Investigation of the electrochemical behavior of sensors and SH materials/components during battery operation using operando and post‑mortem characterization methods Collaboration with internal colleagues and external project partners to develop sensors and SH approaches for Li‑S batteries, particularly for lithium metal anodes, to improve electrochemical performance Processing and analysis of experimental data and preparation of scientific publications Presentation and discussion of research results at national and international conferences and project meetings Your Profile Completed university studies in the field of materials science or electrochemistry Inter‑ and multi‑disciplinary knowledge on battery materials synthesis, electrode/cell design and engineering, and advanced characterization Research experience in rechargeable batteries (both coin cells and pouch cells), especially Li‑S batteries Skilled in physio‑chemical characterization of materials and electrodes, such as SEM/TEM, XRD, UV‑Vis, Raman, etc., especially operando / in situ techniques Advanced knowledge on the interpretation of scientific results and presentation Great skills in communication, project coordination and management Good English language skills (B2) Your Benefits The opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate‑neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely Career‑enhancing networking opportunities, individual guidance, and support through our Graduate Centre and Postdoc Office 30 days of vacation per year and attractive remuneration according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund), plus company pension plan Advisory services on family and career matters through our Office for Work & Life Subsidy for the public transport “Deutschlandticket Job” and exclusive employee discounts Relocation support from non‑EU countries German and English courses for all proficiency levels Fixed term contract for 12 months.
