Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have level 1 trauma experience. Must have previous travel experience; no first-time travelers. Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit. Experience with titration of drips required, specifically heparin. Description: This position is for a neuro med-surg acute unit. The unit consists of 54 beds with semi-private accommodations. Patient ratios are 1:5-6 during nights. Common patient diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience cases. There is a charge nurse and a house supervisor available 24/7. Nurse aids or patient care techs are available with specific ratios. Nurses are responsible for occasional troubleshooting of high-flow equipment. House-wide telemetry is utilized; nurses do not need to read their own strips. Shifts are primarily 12 hours, and weekend requirements include every other weekend. There is a floating requirement with rotation among staff. All staff must adhere to dress code policies regarding tattoos and piercings. Unit-specific orientation will be conducted prior to patient care.
